PRODUCTION HISTORY

2025

Weighting the Wait – A community act of healing and resistance created in partnership with the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute.

2020–2024

In 2020, during the dual upheavals of the COVID-19 pandemic and the national reckoning following the murder of George Floyd, Open Theatre Project paused and took a hard look at ourselves. Rather than waiting to return to “normal,” we examined the structures we had inherited from American theatre — governance, compensation, leadership pathways, and artistic processes — and asked who held power, who was centered, and where inequities persisted. We committed to doing more than issuing statements; we committed to structural change.

Out of that reckoning, we reshaped our organizational framework to prioritize transparency, shared leadership, equitable resource distribution, and accountability rooted in anti-racist practice. The work was foundational, not cosmetic, and it remains ongoing. 2020 marked a turning point for OTP — a conscious shift from participating in inherited systems to actively building a theatre culture aligned with our values.
